Hello. i'm gark.

I am a prose-fessional, hip hop artist, journalist, and founder of Sobmittable, an emotional support group for Submittable rejects.

My work has appeared in or on EARMILK, HuffPost, Catapult, WGN Chicago, HotNewHipHop, Respect Magazine, and Points in Case, among other outlets. I’ve also rocked venues like The White House, the National Poetry Slam, HBO’s Brave New Voices, and Lit Crawl SF, the world’s largest free pop-up literary event. Along the way, I’ve shared the stage with rapper, actor, and author Common; writer/musician George Watsky; poet Joshua Bennett; author and musician DMC (of Run DMC); writer/actor Rafael Casal; and Chinese hip hop pioneer MC Jin.

Additional writing credits include bylines on behalf of CEOs, music festival coverage and interviews with Billboard-topping musicians like Rico Love and Shwayze, and marketing copy and PR strategies for leading technology companies—from NVIDIA to pizza-making robots to Kim Kardashian’s favorite baby monitor. On the hip hop side I created a Top Ramen-themed EP, a Starbucks rap anthem (“On My Grind”), and GOOD CHOICES, an album that donates 100 percent of proceeds to Bay Area nonprofits.

Since graduating from UC Berkeley, where I studied under writers Namwali Serpell and Vikram Chandra, I’ve sharpened my pen at creative writing schools, conferences, and workshops. I am a Lit Camp alumnus, a juried writers conference facilitated by best-selling authors like Jonathan Lethem, R.O. Kwon, and Dana Spiotta. I am also a member of the California Writers Club, founded by Jack London and Joaquin Miller in 1909.
